Initial Estimate
The process of auto painting starts with an inspection of your vehicle. It will be done by a J & R estimator at the paint shop where the repair will take place. After the paperwork is finished and the result of the inspection is produced, photos of the car will be taken. All the necessary information will then be forwarded to the insurance company and the customer.
Vehicle Preparation
In this step, your insurance provider can make a request for the painting of the vehicle. The request is done to make sure all damages are accurately documented and find out if the vehicle should still be refinished. Once the customer and insurance company have provided authorization for the paint process, the paint shop can now prepare for the necessary procedure.
Vehicle Masking
During the vehicle masking process, the vehicle surface is prepared for masking. The vehicle surface must be smooth, clean, dry and free from dust.
Masking tape is applied under and around the edges of the area needed to be painted. Foam masking tape, trim masking tape, masking paper and film are also applied onto the vehicle where appropriate.
Vehicle Cleaned
With the masking complete, the vehicle is degreased and each panel is checked for contamination before the respray can commence. Paint preparation is a crucial step in the refinishing process of all types of vehicles. The paint shop prepares all panels before priming and sealing.
Vehicle Paint Spraying
Vehicle paint is specialized with several different types that are needed for a single, finished application. The primer is the paint placed on the bare metal. The base coat is the layer with the actual color in it. The clear coat is the finishing layer in multi-stage painting.
Quality Inspection
The vehicle receives a quality inspection once paintwork has been completed. Surfaces are cleaned and the body paint is buffed and polished to add a final shine to the surface. The paint shop personnel will inspect the surface to make sure all requirements related to the paintwork are complete.
